The joy of web design (and why the modern web has ruined it)

I've spent the last 2 days looking at the discover tab on Bear and absolutely falling in love with how the layout/theme will look entirely different between blogs, from simple layouts that don't change much to stuff that honestly blows me away. A lot of the modern web aims to be bold and in your face, displaying huge graphics and fancy animations that seem flashy and unneccessary. Personally, I enjoy websites that seek to be different but not over the top, well laid out but not too cluttered with information.

A big part of the old web was just people sharing what they know and felt hand made with a lot of thought put into them. Now I'm not saying that's not something that can happen in modern times, there's just more focus put into the content and optimisation rather than making something look nice, in order to rank higher within search results.

As I've been working on this site, I've been having a blast just customising and adding new features to it from the status bar at the bottom to adding a light/dark mode. It's by no means the final iteration and will probably change a lot as I browse around a bit more and get more ideas!

Honorable mentions:

Robert Birming - For providing a collection of Bear addons, some that I've used here
Departure.blog - I just love how unique the theming and layout for this one is.
chronosaur.us - Pink can look good if done right and this one certainly is!

There's so many others I can mention but there's way too many! (I might just have to dedicate a whole page to them 🤔)
